Prior to being an architecture student at BGSU, I never realized, nor did I take the time to realize, how much architecture influences our culture and way of life.  Not that I was incapable of comprehending this prior to studying architecture, I simply just took it for granted, and passed by without noticing it.  However, now that I am surrounded by architectural thinking, I notice things that I would have never realized before.  For example, a designers goal is to influence the way that a visitor experiences a building or space.  This being said, an architect will use psychology to design a space that makes a person feel a certain way. They do this using several different elements, such as color, light, materials, and even sounds.  For example, if a designer wanted to create a space within their building where visitors wanted to have a sense of warmth and protection, they may use soft lighting, wood floors, and satin, conservative colors.  This is one example of how architecture can affect the way you feel when entering a building. Architectural design can also affect the way you travel through, and experience, a building.  an incredible important aspect of designing a building is the entry sequence, this controls what your initial impression of a building. Although most people may not think of an architect as a psychologist, an artist, or a scientist, I would argue that we are a hybrid of all three.
